Lake Berryessa Recreation Area is located in northern California, and is open year-round. Grassy hills surround the lake, and animals such as eagles, hawks, and deer can be found here. Created by Monticello Dam, Lake Berryessa stores 1.6 million acre feet of water at capacity and is one of the largest bodies of fresh water in California. This provides water and hydroelectricity to the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Berryessa's water reaches temperatures of up to 75 degrees in the summer, making it an ideal place for water sports. Anglers enjoy fishing for both cold and warm water species like rainbow trout, bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill. Birders love the early spring and late fall activities of migration and nesting. Oak and Manzanita trees provide excellent habitat to view eagles, hawks, songbirds, and wild turkeys. Shoreline birders may spot pelicans, great blue herons, western grebes, wood ducks, snow geese, and common loons.

Biking, hunting, boating, hiking, camping, and water skiing are the biggest draws to the area. Tourists and locals also enjoy visiting nearby Napa Valley for excellent wine tasting tours—it's only a half hour away. Lake Berryessa is ideally located just 70 miles northeast of San Francisco and 40 miles west of Sacramento.
